When we use the term hand-to-hand combat skills we are not
referring to some mysterious set of skills from some exotic martial art.
When we use term we mean realistic and practical techniques that would be
recognizable to a U.S. Marine fighting in the jungles of Guadalcanal during
World War II or a frontier American fighting in the Ohio River Valley during
the French and Indian War.
Marines and "frontier" Americans are and were primarily
skilled as expert marksmen with rifles. However, they were also skilled
in fighting with whatever weapon was available such as a knife or a club,
and they were quite capable when resorting to unarmed combat. They knew
how to execute throws, takedowns, locks and chokes, and they knew how to
take full advantage of striking with their hands, elbows, knees and feet.
The techniques they learned to utilize were a blend of skills from a variety
of military and combative disciplines. Those Americans were quite capable
of providing for their own personal defense.
Today, very few Americans have any knowledge of hand-to-hand
combat skills. It is our contention at Stone Ridge Martial Arts that every
citizen has the right to learn combat skills to protect himself or herself
against criminals, thugs, or anyone else that wants to do them harm.
The hand-to-hand combat
techniques we teach as Stone Ridge Martial Arts are the "street combat"
techniques of the KAJUKENBO SELF DEFENSE INSTITUTE,
an American self-defense system.
